Brownscombe Tabernacle
Our Brownscombe Tabernacle is based on the historic design of the traditional tin Tabernacles, once used by Methodist preachers throughout the Southwest. Utterly endearing with its stained glass window and tiny bell tower, it has featured in numerous magazines, is the scene of many proposals and has appeared on Channel 4 and the BBC. John Nettles described it as
A Tiny sacred Gem with the real Wow factor!
Outside the tabernacle
You have your own private parking space next to the field. After a short walk through the sheep field (lambs will be there in the Spring) you open the garden gate to a decked area with two Adirondack chairs for catching some sun, a fire pit BBQ and a covered dining area under an arbour.
Stargaze from the hot tub
We provide all the firewood and this gorgeous Danish tub heats up in just 90 minutes. It comfortably fits two people and the design makes it perfect for lying back and watching the night sky.
Watch the sun set while sipping bubbly in the hot tub, or lie back in comfy garden chairs with a fire crackling in the barbecue fire pit and gaze at stars so bright they’ll take your breath away.
Step inside the tabernacle
The pretty porch leads into an open-plan living space which is small but perfectly formed. The gorgeous woodland wall paper compliments the vintage furniture and the original period pieces built into the design.
There is a rocking chair next to the stove and a hand built kitchen (including a sink, two ring induction hob and fridge with ice box). The stove can also be used for cooking – toast marshmallows in the flames, let a casserole simmer on the top or let your coffee percolate. There is also a radiator to make you less reliant on the stove on Winter mornings.
There is a dining table and two chairs with a Roberts Radio and playing cards.
One end of the room features an incredibly comfortable king size bed with stunning views up the valley, with plenty of storage for clothes underneath. At the other is a well-fitted shower room with a flushing loo and washbasin (hot water on tap, of course).
A magical, peaceful place
The Tabernacle is very private as it is at the end of our site and has stunning views up the valley. There is a kestrel nest in the nearby oak tree, so you can watch the parents feeding the chicks in the summer and you can completely escape and getaway from it all, with only the birdsong and our friendly sheep to disturb you. More about the site.
