Frequently asked questions

Here are some FAQs to help answer any queries or questions you might have. If you require any additional help please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

1. Do you accept pets?

We welcome up to two well behaved dogs at Brownscombe if you are staying in either Bovey or Tamar Safari Tents or one dog in our Cabin. As we have livestock, we ask that they are kept on leads in the Glamping field. We have a fenced in Orchard that they can go off-lead in and there is a pretty 40 minute walk on National trust land a few minutes walk away. It will be your responsibility to clear up after your dog and please don’t leave them unattended. We regret no dogs in the Tabernacle as it is in a sheep field.

2. How do we order food?

You can order on line before you visit, or up to 7pm the night before in the Larder, to be collected the following day.

The kitchen is closed on Sundays and Thursdays but please speak to Kate about pre-orders that can be in your fridge (such as Epic breakfasts).

3. Are towels provided?

All towels and bedding are provided with the exception of beach towels.

4. Is all accommodation non-smoking?

Yes. If you are a smoker, please can you confine it to the area around your camp fire and dispose of cigarettes in the kilner jar provided (ask at reception on arrival).

5. Is there a cot/highchair?

We provide a travel cot and a high chair free of charge but you all need to pre-book.

6. Can I arrange for a supermarket delivery?

Due to the restricted area for the vehicles to turn, we can’t facilitate deliveries. We are 10 minutes drive from Sainsbury’s / M&S food hall and a 5 minute drive from a butcher and farm shop.

7. Is there broadband/Wi-Fi onsite?

Free wifi is available in the Car park area outside the Larder shop and we have a table and chairs available for anyone that needs to catch up on a bit of work.

Every accommodation apart from Yealm has 4G, although in the Tabernacle and Cabin the signal is better outside than in!

8. Do you provide facilities for washing/drying clothes?

We have a washing machine available behind our Larder shop – it is free to use but we are recommending a donation of £2 / wash for the Barn Owl Trust; there is a collection box next to the machine and each year our guests have raised over £100 for this local charity.

9. When do we check in / out?

Check in times are staggered so that we can show all our guests in individually; Tabernacle 3pm, Cabin 3.30pm and Safari Tents from 4pm. We ask that if you are planning on arriving after 6pm that you let us know and we really recommend that you don’t arrive after dark. If you arrive earlier than check in time then we can highly recommend that you stop in at the local pub (Bickley Mill Inn) for lunch or if you have children, stay on the dual carriageway and come off at the exit for Marldon / Compton and go to Occombe Farm – it has a cafe, children’s play area and farm animals to see which is free entry.

Check out is by 10am on the morning of departure and we will need to start emptying the Safari Tent hot tubs from 9.30am in order to clean them in time for new arrivals.

10. Can we have a Pizza Night during our stay?

We organise pizza nights throughout the school holidays and for group bookings when it has been pre-booked. When we contact you the week before your stay, we will let you know which day that we are planning on organising it for. We regret that we don’t offer pizza nights for groups of less than 8 or allow the oven to be used unsupervised.
